Sam Bird has recovered sufficiently from a left hand injury suffered during training in Monaco at the end of April and will return to the wheel of a McLaren electric racing car for the Formula E doubleheader in Shanghai this weekend.
In the three previous races he was replaced by team reserve Taylor Barnard, becoming the youngest competitor in the electric series, and he successfully replaced him, earning points twice. But Bird is quickly getting back into shape after surgery and is ready to compete on the Chinese circuit.
Sam Bird: “I’m very excited to start in Shanghai. Having injured my hand in Monaco, I was unable to participate in the three previous races, but I am looking forward to returning to the wheel of the McLaren team’s No. 8 car. My hand is already fine and I’m ready to fight.’ For the Chinese round of the Electric Car Racing World Championship, the 37-year-old Briton is in 10th place in the standings.
