Last week, Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei said the Formula 1 teams had received a draft of a new Consent Agreement, which will come into effect in 2026. The document has not yet been signed, but the British press has been able to find out some details of the proposed agreement.
The Ferrari team has received the so-called ‘historic bonus’ annually for decades. These are additional payments that the owners of the championship make to the Scuderia due to the fact that it is the only team to participate in Formula 1 since the first season – 1950.
The bonus amount amounts to a minimum of 5% of the total prize money, which is paid out to the teams. At the same time, the size of the Ferrari bonus increases as the prize money grows – up to 10% with a prize fund size of approximately $1.6 billion.
Under the new agreement, Ferrari’s ‘historic bonus’ will continue, but will be strictly limited to 5%, regardless of the size of the total prize money.
Earlier, Greg Maffei expressed confidence that negotiations with the teams on a new agreement would be “pretty easy.”
