On the final stage in Imola, Carlos Sainz said negotiations over next season’s contract were not progressing as quickly as he expected. It is believed that the Spanish driver has two realistic options: a multi-year contract with Sauber/Audi with no guarantee of immediate success and a one-year contract with Mercedes with no guarantee of extension until 2026.
The British television channel Sky Sports News has learned that the option to move to Mercedes is no longer there for Sainz. Reportedly, Toto Wolff has already determined the squad for 2025: if the team fails to sign a contract with Max Verstappen, the young Andrea Kimi Antonelli will become George Russell’s partner next season.
At the same time, Carlos Sainz is in no hurry to accept the Sauber/Audi offer. The Spanish driver will not lose hope of moving to Red Bull Racing if the champion team decides not to renew the contract with Sergio Perez, or if Max Verstappen accepts Mercedes’ offer.
It was previously announced that Audi gave Carlos Sainz until the Monaco Grand Prix to accept or reject their contract offer.
