Mercedes is preparing for the Monaco Grand Prix, a city race whose distance is 78 laps and longer than any other stage of the season.
Among the drivers of modern Formula 1, the most victories in Monaco are Lewis Hamilton, who spends his last season with Mercedes, but once he won this prestigious Grand Prix three times – in 2008, 2016 and 2019. It is difficult to predict what will happen will happen this time, but it is clear that the team is not in the best shape at the moment. Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal: “The small step forward we have taken at Imola is encouraging. The team works incredibly hard on technical innovations and they have certainly enabled us to improve.
However, our rivals have also made improvements, so we are still a step behind the top three teams, and there is still a lot of work to do. However, we know exactly which way to go, and the modernization of the car continues. A stronger foundation has already been built for this and we are confident that we can return to the leadership group over time.
This work will continue this weekend in Monaco, where a unique circuit awaits us, the performance of which will entail interesting but challenging tasks for the team and the drivers. As always it is difficult to predict anything, but we will try to work as smoothly as possible this weekend and get the best out of the car that it is capable of.
The Monaco Grand Prix is always a special stage of the season and we are preparing to put on a spectacular show for the fans, for our partners and for the many guests for whom an extensive program is planned.”
