Max Verstappen won the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix by less than a second. Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko thinks the battle for victory next weekend in Monaco will be no less intense.
Helmut Marko: “Max returns to Monaco as last year’s winner, but what can we expect from the weekend this time? Obviously the battle will be tougher than last year. Charles Leclerc performed very strongly in qualifying in Monaco and the fate of the race will largely be decided in the final session.
If the safety car does not enter the track at an unexpected time, the race ends at the start. You can be three or four seconds faster than your opponent in a lap, but you still can’t catch up. In addition, the circuit has remained the same and the Formula 1 cars are becoming increasingly heavier. This too does not contribute to overtaking, so it will all come down to qualifying.
We saw that the Ferrari car is effective at attacking curbs, and the McLaren is catching up in slow corners. An exciting battle awaits us between Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull Racing. Fortunately, we can count on the Max Verstappen factor in Monaco.”
