The famous German company Porsche is the third car manufacturer to announce its intention to compete in Formula E at least until 2030. during the period in which the electric series switches to the 4th generation of electric racing cars (GEN4). Similar plans have already been confirmed by Nissan and Jaguar.
GEN4 vehicles, which feature a four-wheel drive transmission, will enter service with World Cup teams in the 2026-2027 season (season 13). Porsche’s decision will also strengthen its position as one of the developers and suppliers of power units for Formula E – currently Andretti uses them in addition to the factory team of the Stuttgart group.
Jeff Dodds, Chief Executive of Formula E: “We are pleased to announce that Porsche will remain in our championship for at least another four years. Thanks to this company’s commitment to our common purpose ahead of the long-awaited transition to GEN4 cars, we are not only pushing the boundaries of technological possibilities, but also setting new standards in global motorsport.
Porsche, with its knowledge and experience in creating powerful powertrains, is one of the most respected car manufacturers, and our continued collaboration opens excellent prospects for Formula E…”
Michael Steiner, Member of the Board of Management of Porsche AG Research and Development: “From the very beginning, we believed that our program in Formula E would be long-term. Trends in the development of electric racing vehicles indicate that this area has enormous potential. As we progress, we want to gain even more knowledge from our participation in Formula E, which we can then apply to the creation of our production sports cars.
The level of competition in this racing series is one of the highest in the motorsport world, forcing us to strive for technological excellence. We are ready to continue working on shaping the look of this championship and the development of electric transport in general.”
