Seidl: Our machine has no obvious weaknesses

McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl believes braking problems in the Bahrain test jeopardized the speed of the MCL36 – in fact, the car was better than it looked…

Andreas Seidl: “Looking back, we had a successful first test in Barcelona, the car worked well and then we lost a lot of laps in Bahrain tests due to an unexpected problem. This meant that in the first stage in Bahrain, due to a compromise solution for the cooling of the brakes and insufficient preparation for the season, we performed worse than we could.

When I went to Jeddah and then to Melbourne, I believed that the more laps we do, the faster we will recover from the loss of laps in the tests. All this speed that we see today was already in the car, now we have the chance to demonstrate it.

Our car has no obvious weaknesses, it is competitive, but still inferior to the leaders. And we are doing everything we can to close the gap. Now you can fight with the car every weekend for a large number of points. That is our current goal as we work on innovations that will allow us to achieve more in the future.”
