Albon: I like the third sector of the circle the most

Alex Albon is in his third season with Williams, but over the past two years he has failed to excel in Monaco, both in qualifying and racing. He hasn’t scored any points yet this season, but he thinks his chances on the slow city circuit are better than on other stages.

Alex Albon: “I’m quite optimistic because on a track like this the car’s behavior should change for the better. However, we will see, although it should be noted that overall we have made progress in terms of the car’s behavior in slow corners, and in Monaco the circle consists of these corners.

I’ve always liked the third sector the most; it has a very organic configuration, and when you rush right past the barriers and sometimes even crash into them, it’s always a lot of fun. In any case, this is the part of the route that I find the most interesting.

The main fight in Monaco will not take place on Sunday – first of all you should pay attention to the qualifications. If you manage to do a good lap on Saturday, that’s great and a real pleasure.

The special thing about this weekend is that you are not under pressure because you are participating in a competition, but because you are trying to surpass yourself. And it all depends on the level of risk you are willing to take.”

Alex was once Max Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull Racing and was therefore asked what qualities enable the three-time world champion to achieve such impressive results.

“First of all, this is the ability to immediately show high speeds, from the first lap of the first training session,” replied the Williams driver. “He is a very fast racer who has no weaknesses. We all know our shortcomings and try to overcome them, while for Max, in my opinion, it is difficult to find a weak side that we can take advantage of and thereby overcome him. That’s why it’s so hard to compete with him.”
