Oscar Piastri: We cannot be optimistic

Oscar Piastri has already stood on the podium twice in Monaco, but that was in 2021, when he competed in Formula 2. However, when the talented Australian made his Formula 1 debut with McLaren last year, finishing on this classic city circuit in the top ten.

But now both he and Lando Norris can easily claim high results, including this weekend – the MCL38 car makes this possible.

Oscar Piastri: “Of course we will try. We have reason to be confident, because in the two previous stages we fought on the front row, although it is still difficult to say what the balance of forces will be this weekend. But there will probably be a very intense rivalry between Ferrari, Red Bull and us.

I can say with certainty that we have no shortage of optimism, even though we have strong opponents and it is not easy to beat them, so we will not get ahead of events.”

When Oscar was asked if he dreams of winning the championship in 2024, he replied: “This season it is unlikely. It’s extremely difficult to claim this, especially for me, because I can’t even say exactly what level I’m at. I’m far behind the leaders, so I’m not thinking about the championship at all.

But if we are talking about the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren obviously has a chance to win it if my partner and I consistently show good results every weekend and earn a lot of points. But we must not forget that we have only had a real chance to fight for victory in two stages so far.

We need to make sure we can do this as regularly as possible. But first and foremost we must pay full attention to working on speed.”
