Lewis Hamilton arrived in Monaco in a good mood. Speaking to the press on Thursday, the Mercedes driver expressed the hope that the team will achieve better results on the classic city circuit this weekend than in the previous two years.
Lewis Hamilton: “We have no new products this weekend. We’ve made updates to the two previous phases; in fact, we divided one update pack into two races. In Monaco we have the car in maximum downforce configuration, just like everyone else. We have a pretty well developed wing, but other than that we don’t know what we are going to do this weekend.
But I’m definitely more excited when I compared it to the mood I had when I came to Monaco last year and the year before – we didn’t have the best cars then. Work continues on the W15 and I hope we will look much better this weekend than last year.
You can train on a simulator, but only when you get to a real track will you know whether you have problems or not. In an ideal world you arrive at the track and get started straight away, but with us that has not been the case in recent years.
But like I said, I came to this stage with confidence. This year’s car is more predictable and much more fun to drive. It’s not perfect yet, but it’s going in the right direction.
Last year we weren’t that far behind in qualifying, although the car was much worse than the current one. Hopefully it will mean something this weekend.”
