British Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton achieved the best time during the first free practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion took first place in the protocol with a result of 1 minute 12.169 seconds. The Australian McLaren driver took second place. Oscar Piastri (+0.029), the top 3 is completed by another Mercedes driver George Russell (+0.126).
Current Formula 1 champion and season leader Max Verstappen of Red Bull became 11th (+0.815).
The race was interrupted by red flags due to debris on the track from Guanyu Zhou’s Kick Sauber car. The Chinese driver hit the wall in the first corner and broke the front wing. Charles Leclerc drove over the wreckage of an aerodynamic element of a Ferrari, which is organizing its home Grand Prix.
The second training session in Monaco will take place later on Friday, starting at 18:00 Moscow time.
