According to the results of Friday’s training in Monaco, the Sauber drivers were in the last two lines of the protocol, but judging by their comments this does not discourage them and both say with confidence that they will be able to improve on Saturday.
Valtteri Bottas (19th): “Today we worked productively and gathered important information needed to prepare for qualifying, and this is the most important session of the weekend in Monaco.
I always enjoy riding these streets, and of course it’s even more fun because this is my home track. The car left a good impression and overall I felt confident behind the wheel in both sessions where we tested different settings.
I believe that Friday’s results do not reflect our real speed, and tomorrow we have to be more competitive. The results are solid and given the course of the training I am positive: I think we have a good chance in qualifying.
We have something to fight for, and we must do everything we can to seize every opportunity that presents itself.”
Guanyu Zhou: “The training results do not correspond to our real capabilities: based on the weather forecast we decided to use soft tires in the first session and not in the second. Preparations for qualifying continue and during the day the car’s behavior was already better compared to the first session. I think we should try to add a few more tenths, but we’ll find out tomorrow.
In the first session my car was torn off the line in Turn 1, but I managed to avoid serious damage. In general, this is Monaco. If we talk about the tasks for the remaining days of the weekend, it is important to try to find the right settings and keep the tires working efficiently. If I manage to improve myself, I am sure we will still fight for a normal result.”
