Charles Leclerc set the best time in the second practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver thinks he has a real chance of his first victory at his home circuit this weekend.
His teammate Carlos Sainz set the sixth fastest time and said he was pleased with the car’s speed over a long distance.
Charles Leclerc (1st): “We are very fast on the Medium tires, but on the Soft tires I couldn’t complete a lap because of the traffic. But at the moment we have a fast car and I am confident in it. It’s important to keep the momentum going into the third workout.
Today I took a little more risk than others and it paid off. However, only the qualifying results will matter if everyone pushes to the limit. At the moment we have done a very good job, but we must continue to operate in the same way and focus on solving our own problems. The first day went well.
The team entered this phase knowing that a lot was possible. We are fast, but Mercedes, who have had problems since the start of the season, are also very fast this weekend. I expect them to compete with us tomorrow. Lewis Hamilton was fast in both sessions, but I hope everything works out for us and I win pole. This will be the best starting position and if I can put all the pieces together, I will finally win on my home track.”
Carlos Sainz (6th): “Difficult Friday. I had issues with the stability of the laps, which required me to test different settings. In the last set of laps I was more satisfied with the car and the speed over the long distance was also positive.
We will try to keep the momentum going in the third practice and prepare for qualifying.”
