Andretti pushed to buy the current team

At a press conference on Friday, team leaders were asked what Andretti should do to get into Formula 1 after Maffei’s recent announcement. Everyone believes there is only one answer: buy the current team, mainly because there is a choice.

Christian Hoorner: “Look, we belong to the US. Our car features the logos of five Fortune 500 companies. This statement is not due to the fact that Andretti is American.

I think it’s purely about Formula 1’s business model. I remember that not so long ago, the teams that needed help were always in last place – they were insolvent.

Formula 1 is now strong and healthy and Liberty is to be congratulated for creating a viable model where even the worst team is worth almost a billion.

I was surprised when Andretti went this route, but I hope that if they really want to get into Formula 1, the most natural solution would be to take over an existing franchise if someone wants to sell it.

Andretti has a long racing history. Mario is a legend in the sport and Cadillac is a strong American manufacturer. But I think Andretti should go the way of Audi and take over one of the existing teams.”

Alessandro Aluni Bravi, Sauber spokesperson: “I completely agree with Christian. I think Audi has chosen the right path to enter Formula 1. Cadillac is of course a major player and this qualifies this project as potentially good. But there is an obvious way: buy an existing team.”

Bruno FamenAlpine: “Andretti and Cadillac are big names, but we have to be very careful to maintain the value of the championship and the teams. And there are two ways: they buy the team or bring enough advantage to the championship to offset it. But I think it’s about the same thing.”
