In Monaco, Alex Albon reached the qualifying final for the first time this season, where he posted the ninth fastest time. His Williams teammate Logan Sargent, in a car without technical innovations, stopped fighting in the first part.
Alex Albon (9th): “Great day – I’m happy with my circles. Our car has been fast all weekend, although there are still some problems with understeer in the second sector. My team and I changed the settings to resolve the issue.
In qualifying it all came down to getting the tires within operating range. We chose the time to leave so that we could be on an empty track and concentrate on the tires, without worrying too much about the fact that the track condition was constantly improving.
During a race, rubber granulation can be a problem, so you will need to keep an eye on the tires throughout the race. I hope I can stand on an empty track and check the condition of the tires.
In theory, the extra weight of our car shouldn’t really hinder us on this track, so there should be a chance to compete.
As far as I know Logan has no updates on the machine and has slightly different settings. This may be the reason he could not qualify for the second part of qualifying.”
Logan Sargent (17th): “Good session for the team. I rode well from the first practice and was very happy with my laps in qualifying. I feel like I got the most out of the car I had at my disposal today.
The team openly stated that my car and my partner’s were different this weekend, so I was prepared for my results to be slightly different.
In Monaco it is difficult to overtake, so we will concentrate on our own tasks and try to drive cleanly in the sections. Let’s see what result we can achieve.”
