In Hungary, Max Verstappen won the race for the first time in his career, starting outside the top four…
Christian Horner, sports director: “What a fantastic race! All worked at the highest level. Max was great, and his turn only added to the spectacle, as if winning from tenth wasn’t hard enough.
Sergio also had a brilliant race. He was able to climb the podium with a virtual safety car.
This win gives us an extra edge in the run-up to the summer break, but there are areas where we need to improve. Ferrari is still fast, Mercedes is back in the fray – a lot of interesting things await us!”
Max Verstappen (1st): “Insanely nice to win a race after starting from tenth place, especially on a track where it is difficult to overtake. Today we did everything right, successfully performed several “cuts”, worked perfectly as a team.
This is definitely one of my best races, even with a slight turnaround! I’m happy with our leadership, but we have to keep working and making progress.”
Sergio Perez (5th): “It’s great that we’re leaving the summer holidays in great shape. After qualifying it looked like the weekend couldn’t be successful, but I earned points, fought with Mercedes and Ferrari – it was fun!
The race proved quite difficult, especially towards the end when the tires got cold during the virtual safety car (VSC). We were a bit unlucky with this, we were hoping to overtake Carlos and George, and without the VSC mode I could have gotten much closer towards the end of the race. On the last lap I was faster, I think with a few more laps I could have been on the podium with Max.”
