Sunny. Dry. Air +22С, highway +46…47С
The weather this weekend in Monaco is a sight to behold. Warm and dry, although the temperature of the asphalt was already approaching 50 degrees under a cloudless sky on Saturday morning.
In the third practice, the teams refined the settings and prepared for qualifying – this weekend everything will be determined by the position at the start.
At the start of the session, many riders traditionally opted for harder compounds to save on softer tyres, switching to Soft at the end.
In the 12th minute the session was stopped with red flags. Bottas hit the Rascasse barrier with his right front wheel, the suspension broke and he blocked the track. Hamilton, who was driving behind him, had to stop. The Sauber car was quickly evacuated and Valtteri’s training ended there.
Traffic was in the way. Magnussen spun at Mirabeau, but he brought the car back to the desired position and continued. Hamilton locked his tires and ended up in the safety pocket in the first corner. Piastri was also visiting there.
Several incidents, when drivers slowed down in the tunnel, trying to get behind their rivals and secure free space for themselves, were taken into consideration by the stewards – this was dangerous. The remaining episodes remained without consequences.
The best time was set by Charles Leclerc, who completed a lap in 1:11.369; the results of 15 riders fit into the second. Qualifying will be interesting!
