Kevin Magnussen: Perez pushed me against the wall

Kevin Magnussen commented on the dramatic accident on the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix – from the Danish Haas driver’s perspective, Sergio Perez was to blame, leaving him without a place on the track.

Kevin Magnussen: “From my point of view, the front of my car was already almost in front of the rear wheels of Perez’s car, and when he started driving towards the threshold, he pushed me against the barriers – at that moment there was contact between the cars.

I trusted him, believing that he would leave my room if I was to his right. This is not the corner where we brake, it is a small corner on a straight part of the track, so we have to leave enough space for the opponent not to put him in a hopeless position.

Unfortunately, the team is now faced with major costs and our boys will have to work hard, and we have probably missed some opportunities. I don’t know what other consequences there will be, but of course all this still needs to be investigated, because the accident was serious, and we will see what the stewards say. But I think I had already started to overtake, but he pushed me against the wall.”
