Mario Isola: Congratulations to Charles Leclerc and Ferrari!

Pirelli, together with everyone, congratulates Charles Leclerc on his victory in the home race of the Ferrari driver of Monaco, emphasizing that after the restart the Hard and Medium tires allowed the majority of the drivers to reach the finish, despite 77 laps.

Mario Isola, Director of Pirelli Motorsport: “First of all, congratulations to Charles Leclerc and Ferrari on their victory! We are only now beginning to understand how much this success means to Charles, because he won the race on the streets of his hometown.

If we talk about tire performance, then in Monaco there are usually not many tactical options, and today even these opportunities were crossed out due to the fact that the race was stopped by red flags already on the first lap. This effectively meant that there were no more pit stops required.

We knew that with both Medium and Hard compounds we could go the distance if we worked with them correctly, and most riders succeeded.

The peloton was divided into groups based on who was riding on which tyres, and within these groups there was a sort of cat and mouse game, with riders trying to force their opponents to make mistakes, but there was no overtaking maneuver or opportunity to get on the change somehow. tactics that could theoretically make the situation worse.

The riders who did go to the pits returned to the track without losing position. Then, with the track clear in front of them, they were able to pick up the pace briefly and lapped several seconds faster than those who had to save their tires. But as soon as they entered traffic, they had to slow down again and drive right behind the car in front of them. This explains that the top ten riders finished in the same positions as they started.”
