Alex Albon finished ninth in Monaco, earning Williams’ first two points of the season. This result allowed the British team to rise to eighth place in the Constructors’ Championship.
Logan Sargent finished fifteenth and explained this because, unlike his partner, there were no new products on his car.
Alex Albon (9th): “I would have preferred a more exciting race, but I’m still happy to earn points. Ninth place and the first points of the season mean a lot to us. The lack of points is not good for the team’s morale, so I hope today’s race will be a turning point of the season for us.
I’m a little disappointed because you could see how slow Yuki Tsunoda’s pace was, but he defended well. The race was very slow and painful – in such conditions it was difficult for me to maintain concentration.
This weekend we had a few new things that added a bit of speed to the car. It’s great that they are working and have allowed us to maintain approximately the same pace as our direct competitors.”
Logan Sargent (15th): “It’s a difficult race. I spent most of the distance looking at someone else’s rear wing. Nothing happened and I was almost always behind Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo. This caused the tires to start to wear out and there was nothing I could do about it. The rear tires were almost completely worn out and I had to go to the pits. Once I had the new tires and was on an empty track, I felt comfortable.
Alex earned points, which will be a boost for the team. The result shows what awaits us. I’m looking forward to the coming stages where both our cars will run in the same configuration and we can both compete.”
