Turini: The bells ring in Maranello to celebrate Charles’ victory

After Charles Leclerc’s pole position in Monaco, Leo Turini, a veteran of Italian racing journalism and a passionate Ferrari fan, wrote on his blog that if he won, he, a modest literary craftsman, would not be able to express the general joy. for this he would need a talent of the caliber of Duma’s father or Victor Hugo. And now Turini called Charles “the fifth musketeer”…

Elegant as Aramis. Brutal as Porthos. Subtly sensitive, like Athos. Talented as D’Artagnan. Oh, Dumas!…

It is quite possible to say about Charles that he is the fifth musketeer.

After all, there are prophets in our own country! And at the same time I propose to leave aside the inevitable concerns that there was little of interest during the race in Monte Carlo – we are not interested in that now, because thanks to Charles’ victory the bells are ringing in Maranello.

I can hardly imagine what was going through Leclerc’s head when he saw the checkered flag. He was born in Monaco and, as a child, seeing Formula 1 cars driving down the street near his home, he began to dream of becoming a racing driver.

It must be said that fate was cruel to him – it seemed that the Monaco Grand Prix became for him a terrible fairy tale, in which there was no happy ending.

But now I can hardly stop myself from getting emotional – this is normal for people my age. Let me be clear: the last time a Ferrari driver started from pole position and won in Monaco was in 1979. It was Jody Scheckter from South Africa.

At that time, I was busy reading textbooks in preparation for final exams. And now I broke out in a cold sweat because I was afraid that an accident could ruin our vacation.

Leclerc deserves to worry about him so much because he is a real Ferrari driver. On Saturday he qualified in the style of Ayrton Senna, after which the painful countdown began and finally Charles waited for the moment when he could let the joy flow after the finish of the Grand Prix. Ayrton was just as happy when he finally won his home race in Brazil in 1991.

This is not only a victory for Charles, but also for Ferrari – the Scuderia behaved simply wonderfully all weekend. It is a sign that Frederic Vasseur and his entourage have managed to convince the team that nothing is impossible for them, especially when it turned out that Red Bull Racing is not so invulnerable after all. This is an important signal for all rivals: let’s hope that the long period in which the Scuderia suffered from various inferiority complexes will come to an end.

In terms of predictions for the season, Red Bull remains the favourite. Max Verstappen is a phenomenal driver and knows how to forget failures very quickly. However, thanks to Ferrari and McLaren, the championship is becoming more interesting than you might expect, and that’s not a bad thing.

Finally, the spectacle itself was quite boring. I totally agree. Perhaps those who recently criticized the Imola race for the same thing have now changed their minds. But at this point I propose to close the topic, because now only a few words are enough.

The time of victory is coming.
