Rivals in the battle for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship – Alpine and McLaren – earned six points in Hungary, but the French team stayed ahead…
Fernando Alonso (8th): “A difficult race, it’s great that we earned points again with two cars. On the first lap I managed to avoid an incident in the first corner, but I lost a few places. After that we focused on the race pace and tried to implement a strategy of one pit stop with a long stretch on hard tires. I just didn’t have two new sets of Medium.
The pace shown on Saturday gave us optimism, but we waited for a better result. It is good that we are still ahead of McLaren – this is a great result for the team.
We have to keep earning points, as happened today. I hope this stability will be our strength in the fight for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship.”
Esteban Ocon (9th): “We can be happy that we earned points with two cars today – it’s always positive, especially before the summer break.
I don’t think we realized the maximum potential of the car during the race – we will discuss with the team how we can achieve more next time. It turned out to be quite difficult to run a race with one pit stop, we chose such a strategy to increase the chance of points, but on the last lap I could hardly stop Sebastian Vettel’s attacks.
We are going into the holidays in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship and after the break we will try to get a foothold in this position.”
