Lando Norris: I finished ahead of the main rivals

Lando Norris finished seventh in Hungary, giving McLaren six points to stop rivals Alpine from extending their lead in the battle for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. His teammate Daniel Ricciardo finished 15th due to tire problems.

Lando Norris (7th): “I’m happy with seventh place. After qualifying we obviously wanted more, but today we didn’t have the speed to keep the faster cars behind us – we performed too well in qualifying.

I am happy with the result, because we did the maximum. The race was difficult at times, but we managed, earned points and finished ahead of the main rivals. ”

Daniel Riccardo (15th): “Unfortunately, there were more minuses than pluses. I had a good start but then rolled back a bit and in the first corner I slowed down surrounded by rivals. I was in a good position, but someone from Alpine was up front at the exit of the first corner – there was no more room for me, so I had to give way. Otherwise I would have damaged the front wing. As a result, I didn’t get through the second corner in the best way because I was in the outer radius. The first round was chaotic.

Then the Soft tires actually fell apart – I couldn’t help it. The part on the Medium turned out to be a little better – I did a double pass from the Alpine racers – it was fun. I could even hold Stroll, but when I switched to Hard and he to Soft, I had no grip on the track. I tried to avoid the collision, but unfortunately I hit Lance, sent him into a U-turn and got a ticket for it. The hard tires didn’t work – I couldn’t do anything with them.

I’m looking forward to the break and will try to come back faster in the second half of the season.”

Andreas Seidli, Team Principal: “As all six cars from the top three teams completed the race, seventh place is the highest we could hope for today, and we did. Thanks to the innovations the team introduced at the Paul Ricard circuit, we were able to improve and become the fourth best team – a great achievement.

Lando had a clean race and finished seventh. Daniel had the same strategy, but he couldn’t get a grip on the last stint on hard tires so he couldn’t score any points.

We have a lot of work to do in the last week before closing the base for the summer break. Many thanks to everyone working on the track and on the grassroots, our colleagues from Mercedes HPP for their efforts this year. Now everyone needs to rest, re-energize and come back stronger to continue the exciting fight in the Constructors’ Championship. See you at the Spa.”
