In Monaco, Max Verstappen finished sixth – last time the current world champion showed a low result (by his standards) at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in 2022. Helmut Marko mentioned several reasons why Red Bull Racing had problems with the speed in Monaco .
Helmut Marko: “We are now working within the current technical regulations for the third year and our rivals are copying our solutions. Some people do better, as McLaren’s results show. In addition, Rob Marshall has joined them and we are seeing the first results of his work. Ferrari has also made progress.
We are having data correlation issues between the simulator and the real circuit. Both our drivers came to Monaco excited because they believed the car would be good at attacking kerbs. But as soon as they got behind the wheel on Friday, they immediately said: the RB20 is undriveable!”
Red Bull’s motorsport advisor responded to a question about the Horner case by saying that the matter has not yet been resolved: “But we have to put that aside, especially in a situation where the team is faced with such a difficult task. Max refused to delve into this matter and concentrated entirely on racing. He made the right decision.”
As for his own plans for the future, Marco confirmed that his contract with the championship team runs until the end of 2026.
“When the time comes, I will decide what to do next,” Hellmuth said. “But now everything is focused on Red Bull and Max Verstappen.”
