For the second race in a row, Aston Martin racers battled it out for tenth place at the finish, but if Lance Stroll earned a point in France, Sebastian Vettel earned a point in Hungary.
Sebastian Vettel (10th): “Today Lance and I were fighting for one point and I was hoping for second, chasing Okon in the closing laps. The team switched places because I had the best chance of overtaking Esteban, but they announced the virtual safety car mode and then the race ended. On the last lap I was very close to taking the lead, literally one more corner was not enough.
Overall, the race turned out to be fun, with a lot of fighting and overtaking. The mid section was a little hard, but in the third section, when I switched to Medium, the balance suited me just fine. In the race we were again more competitive than the day before, so the main goal for the second part of the season is to improve in qualifying.”
Lance Walk (11th): “I had a good race. On the last stint Sebastian was running Medium and I was riding Soft – I just ran out of Medium tires so he could better manage the tire life.
I enjoyed the race, fought in the top ten. When I attacked Daniel Ricciardo, I left him plenty of room in the inside radius of the second corner, but he had problems with traction on the hard tires so there was contact. This sometimes happens.
We seem to be more competitive on Sunday than on Saturday – this needs to be addressed, but overall the day left positive emotions.
