Formula 2 driver Kimi Antonelli, who is among the candidates to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2025, held a private test organized by Mercedes at Silverstone in the first half of May.
The team did not comment on the races, but the press wrote that these were not just tests behind the wheel of the 2022 car, but comparative tests with the participation of Mick Schumacher. The Italian Corriere dello Sport managed to find out new details of the tests.
It turned out that not only Schumacher, who set the reference lap time for the 17-year-old Italian, worked with Antonelli at Silverstone, but also the team’s lead driver, George Russell.
It is known that Kimi’s best time was on par with Mick Schumacher’s, but the comparison with Russell looks much more interesting. In qualifying mode, Antonelli and Russell showed similar results, but in a long series of laps simulating a race, Kimi was faster than George.
Corriere dello Sport thinks that the contract with Mercedes for 2025 is practically in Antonelli’s pocket after the tests.
