The first phase of the reconstruction of the Hungaroring has been completed

Since the beginning of January, the racers at the Hungaroring have been replaced by construction workers and heavy equipment. The first phase of reconstruction was completed, updating the paddock and fan area and building two tunnels under the straight. Work will continue after the July Grand Prix and be completed in 2026.

To meet deadlines, work on the track was sometimes carried out around the clock with the participation of 400-500 people, and a total of 1,500 people were involved in the project.

Four tower cranes and five mobile cranes were active on site, 3,200 tons of reinforcing steel and 32,000 cubic meters of concrete were laid. The builders transported 170,000 cubic meters of earth and completed the construction of all the retaining walls of the event area behind the grandstand with a total length of 450 meters.

Zsolt Gyulai, CEO of the Hungaroring: “It was great to see the pace of work and how the track changed every week. I hope the fans will be impressed. In the new era, needs have changed, the business world around Formula 1 has changed, the Grand Prix is now considered a four-day festival – and we have to adapt to these changes.

I am happy that we have taken the first step: the smallest paddock on the calendar has been expanded, two tunnels have been constructed, the finish line has been resurfaced and the area outside the track has been resurfaced. FOM representatives recently visited us and were pleased with what they saw.”
