Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko fears the financial damage suffered by the champion team after the collision between Sergio Perez and Kevin Magnussen on the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix could affect its ability to refine the car.
Under budget caps, each team can spend no more than $135 million in 2024. This amount also includes the removal of consequences after accidents, so the loss of three million that will be needed to restore Perez’s car will be significant.
Helmut Marko: “The accident will of course have consequences for us. It will cost three million to restore the car, and in the worst case we will have less money to finish the car. If we have to take additional measures due to increased competition from Ferrari and McLaren, we will obviously find ourselves in a difficult position.”
Helmut Marko added that the team could face problems with spare parts if one of the drivers has another serious accident at the next round in Canada: “If another accident occurs, not all spare parts will be available for both cars.”
