Athletistic will broadcast a live online text broadcast: Formula 1. Hungarian Grand Prix. Race. Direct
It’s time for the last race before the summer break and that last race is the Hungarian Grand Prix. Ferrari will be pushing hard to ensure that Red Bull finally climbs out of the constructors’ championship standings. Mercedes after a double podium will try again to dominate. And the prospects are there since George Russell won his first career pole yesterday in front of two Ferraris.
The Hungaroring circuit is very similar to the Monaco circuit because it is also a high downforce circuit where it is not easy to overtake. The race will last 70 laps. The Hungaroring also has 14 corners and only two DRS zones. The first is very short between the first and second corner, and the next is only after the 14th corner on the start-finish straight.
While the tire compounds offered are in the neutral C2, C3 and C4 range, intermediates and slicks may come due to the rain forecast during the race.
The Haas team performed its first major update of the season, but only for Kevin Magnussen’s car. Updates include a new underbody, body cooling, rear suspension and engine cover. McLaren also made other changes to the car, adding flow stabilizers to improve diffuser loading. This is on top of the updates they introduced last week at the French Grand Prix with a new rear wing, side pods and underbody.
Russell will start first today, followed by the Scuderia drivers, but Red Bull failed to qualify. Perez didn’t even make it to the third segment, after which he incurred the wrath of Helmut Marko. He promised a serious conversation with Perez. Verstappen failed to show a good time on the first attempt of the third segment, crashing into the corner. Then he started having trouble with the engine and he only finished qualifying in tenth place. It’s lucky for Ferrari and even for Mercedes, it’s unlikely that the rest of the teams can retain Red Bull.
