In Hungary, Mercedes almost achieved maximum results, taking pole position and two podium finishes. Toto Wolff is pleased with the riders’ performance, but expects more from the team…
Toto Wolff: “Lewis has incredible fighting skills. In Budapest he always performed well. As the race went on, he appeared out of nowhere and was the fastest. He didn’t win this race just because DRS didn’t work on his car in qualifying or he would have been battling for the win.
George performed well in qualifying, won pole position, had a good race. He kept an eye on the condition of the tires and took part in the battle, but in the second segment of the race the tires just didn’t work.
It’s great to finish second and third in two races in a row, but we want to fight for the win. On the other hand, after a bad Friday, I’m happy with the result. We are still learning how to operate this machine. We were fast in Hungary, but we should not overestimate our speed. As we move from one podium to the next, we are learning and experimenting so we can fight for victories at the end of the season.”
