Pirelli is developing a new soft C6 compound for the 2025 season. The C6 tires are designed for use on slow urban circuits such as those in Monaco and Singapore. The first tests took place this week at the Paul Ricard circuit with Ferrari.
“The idea is to introduce a softer C6 compound as more city circuits appear on the calendar,” says Pirelli racing boss Mario Isola. “We are going to expand the range of soft tires and take measures to prevent overheating. The big challenge is finding the right balance between overheating and degradation.
A few days ago we tested the C6 at the Paul Ricard circuit. This was the first attempt, but the idea is to move in that direction and introduce six setups next year.
The proposal initially came from us, taking into account which tracks are included in the calendar. The goal is to move away from a one-stop strategy and encourage two-stop strategies.
The teams asked for tires that were less sensitive to overheating, so we decided to develop a softer compound. There is a risk that if we reduce overheating, teams will change their tires less often because drivers can complete more laps without serious tire damage. Therefore, if we go in this direction, we need softer connections.”
