French driver Doriane Pin, who was accepted into Mercedes’ youth program this year and has been quite successful in the F1 Academy women’s series, will miss the Le Mans Marathon due to injury.
The 20-year-old Frenchwoman has a very busy schedule this season, because in addition to the F1 Academy (where she already won the race, was on the podium twice more and achieved 2nd place in the individual competition), Dorian also pilots Lamborghini sports cars in endurance races and participates in the European Formula Regional Championship (FRECA) as part of the Italian team Iron Dames.
Last weekend she was injured on the Spa circuit during the stage of this series.
“During further medical examinations, we found out that my ribs were broken,” Pin said on her social media pages. “This obviously means that I need time to recover, so together with the team we have made the difficult decision to skip the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FRECA round in Zandvoort.
The decision is difficult, it doesn’t make me happy, especially because the Le Mans race is one of the most important events of the year, and particularly important for me. I was preparing for this race and looking forward to sharing the joy of this weekend with all the fans and of course with my team. But I have to make the choice that is best for me and for the Iron Ladies.”
Dorian Pin’s place in the #85 Lamborghini Huracan crew in the LMGT3 category will be taken by 38-year-old Swiss driver Rachel Frey, for whom this will be her seventh start at Le Mans.
It is worth adding that a year ago, during the classic marathon on the French circuit, Sarté Pin was partnered by Daniil Kvyat and Mirko Bortolotti as part of the Prema Racing crew competing in the LMP2 category.
In 2024, the Le Mans 24-hour race will take place from June 15 to 16.
