On June 1, Ron Dennis, the former head of McLaren, turned 77 years old.
He started in motorsport as a mechanic but had an incredible career leading the team at the age of 33. It was under him that she achieved her most important successes – from 1984 Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and Lewis Hamilton became world champions in her cars.
It was Dennis who founded the car production division McLaren Automotive, the first brainchild of which was the legendary McLaren F1 sports car. This company has now gained momentum, its products are represented in all major markets of the world and compete quite successfully with such brands as Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Mercedes and others.
In 2016, Dennis finally parted ways with McLaren, and not of his own free will, and a year later he decided to sell all his shares in the McLaren Group and move on to other projects. Since 2019, Sir Ron Dennis has been Ambassador to the British Government, working with the Department of Foreign Trade – one of only six representatives of British business entrusted with this honorable responsibility.
“Congratulations Ron Dennis! The former head of McLaren turned 77 today, and what a great man he is! – these words appeared on social networks on the pages of the McLaren fan community. “It was thanks to him that the team achieved tremendous success in the 1980s, winning many championships and having the best racers in the world racing in their cars.”
But for some reason there is no such thing on the official McLaren website or on other team pages, although they did not forget to congratulate Martin Brundle, their former driver, whose birthday is also today.
“Was it difficult to work with Ron? Yes, this happened,” his former colleagues write on their personal pages. “But at the same time, he could be an absolutely great leader.” And most importantly, he distinguished himself through exceptional dedication to the team.”
Despite all the contradictions in this figure, one cannot help but recognize Ron Dennis’s contribution to the development of Formula 1, so F1News.ru joins in all the congratulations addressed to him today.
