Simone Resta ended his partnership with Ferrari after working for the team for almost a quarter of a century, albeit with interruptions. We talked about how the Italian engineer signed a contract with Mercedes, where he will hold the position of director of strategic development.
In recent years he worked at Haas, where he was seconded to improve the efficiency of the technical cooperation between the American team and Ferrari, but at the beginning of 2024 his mission ended and in March it became known about the switch from Resta to Mercedes.
“Today is my last day at Ferrari, after 23 years of passionate love for this team, where I worked from 2001 to 2024,” said Simone Resta on his page on the business portal LinkedIn. – I got a unique professional experience, I had the opportunity to meet exceptionally talented people.
“I am truly grateful to everyone who believed in me, and I am also grateful to the fans who have consistently supported me over the years.”
At Mercedes he will again work with James Allison, with whom he already worked at Ferrari when he was technical director. Resta was appointed chief designer of the Scuderia at the time.
The 53-year-old Italian will start at his new position on October 1, after completing his mandatory ‘academic leave’, which was reduced to four months by agreement between the two teams.
