Haas is optimistically looking forward to the Canadian Grand Prix. The team assures that the characteristics of the Montreal circuit are suitable for the VF-24 car and expect to earn points.
Ayo Komatsu, Team Manager: “Montreal has a quite unique circuit with a lot of slow corners and changes of direction. Furthermore, the track is completely unforgiving of errors.
The setup requires less downforce compared to other circuits, and considering the performance of the VF-24 this is good, as fast corners are our weak point. In slow corners the balance of the car is crucial and we have to get it right. If we talk about the level of downforce, we are more competitive on low-level circuits, which can be considered another positive point.
The main conclusion is that Montreal has a specific circuit in terms of configuration, downforce levels, high braking loads, slow corners and changes of direction. With that being said and the way we’ve been running in the last eight races, I think we can fight for the points.”
Nico Hulkenberg: “I love Montreal. This is probably my favorite number on the calendar. I like that the track is located on a small island and when you go to the track in the morning you feel the atmosphere of Montreal.
The track is cool, although there is no height difference, but the rhythm of the lap is unique and suits me. Last year the stage was positive, especially the results on Saturday, but on Sunday we lacked competitiveness and fell back.
I’m looking forward to getting back on the track. We are in much better shape this year and have to translate our good performance in qualifying into a result in the race.”
Kevin Magnussen: “Montreal is also a great and classic circuit, although it does not have as rich a history as Monaco or Monza. Definitely a circuit for real racers, where you have to attack the curbs and brake late for the chicanes. There are some overtaking opportunities during the race and overall the location is great.
The city is amazing – the food, the hotels, the fans – I can’t say anything bad! I don’t think I’ve ever had great results in Montreal, so I want to change that this year.”
