After very successful performances in the previous four rounds, in which McLaren drivers achieved 115 points, the British team heads to Montreal with rather moderate expectations.
Lando Norris: “Now Canada is waiting for us! I love racing in Montreal, it’s a fun track with some pretty challenging sections, which makes it even more interesting.
Our car performed well on different types of tracks, but we know that this successful run could be interrupted in Canada. Most likely, the opponents there will be stronger than us.
It was wonderful to have a week to recover after the stages in Imola and Monaco, which followed in a row. We achieved two podiums there, scored a lot of points for the team and then I had some productive sessions in the simulator at the Woking base working with the engineers, so we’ll see what we can achieve next weekend.”
Oscar Piastri: “The stage in Monaco left a special impression. I felt it on all three days of the weekend, and when, after racing through the streets of the principality, I stood on the podium in a uniform made in the colors favored by Ayrton Senna, it was indescribable. When I was young in Australia I dreamed of racing in Monaco, so it was great to win trophies at this classic track.
Now I’m happy with the way I fly; First of all, I am happy with the stability that I have been able to show in the last three stages. Progress is never linear, but I’m thrilled to be able to demonstrate my capabilities behind the wheel of this car that the team has worked with so effectively.
I hope we can continue our run of successful performances in Canada because there is a very intense rivalry on the front row and we want to achieve new good results.”
Andrea Stella, team leader: “I am happy that after two consecutive stages, with two cups for 2nd places, we have returned to the basics of the team. Thanks to the good results of Lando and Oscar, we were able to strengthen our position in the constructors’ championship. But there are not many races behind us yet, so we have to keep working hard.
Racers and fans alike love the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, but new challenges await us there when we compare this circuit with the circuits we have already raced on this year. Although we go to the Canadian Grand Prix with a more optimistic attitude than last year, we understand that it will not be easy for us there.
The aim is to create a car that is competitive on all types of tracks, and the team is working hard to achieve this.”
