Lewis Hamilton is happy with the results of the Hungarian weekend at the track, where he has always been very successful…
Q: Lewis, in Hungary you are on the podium for the fifth race in a row, already eleventh at the Hungaroring. After a difficult Friday and the DRS’s refusal to qualify, are you happy with second place?
Lewis Hamilton: More than. I’m happy to see how the team is progressing over the course of a difficult season for us. Second in France was the best result for us at the time, and in Hungary we repeated that, we finished in the top three again with two cars and earned a lot of points.
I’m glad I was able to recover after starting from seventh place. At a distance, our car is very competitive.
Q: What was the most important moment in the last race?
Lewis Hamilton: Probably the second segment. It turned out to be a long time, which allowed me to switch to Soft later and earn back.
On the first part, which I rode on Medium, there were no great chances, but on the second and third parts everything went well.
Q: If you start with Soft, can you achieve more?
Lewis Hamilton: I would probably be closer to Max, but who knows if I could have done such a long stretch. If I had started from the position I should have started from, there would have been more opportunities in the fight against Max.
Q: In France you were very happy with second place, now you say you could have done better. Will you win the race this season?
Lewis Hamilton: I hope so. We do everything possible. Hungary had a chance. George took pole on Saturday. If we both started forward, we could work as a team and share the strategy.
Hopefully we can maintain the pace of progress after the summer break. In Hungary we were able to fight with Ferrari for the first time and be ahead of them, but Red Bull is still ahead. Max started tenth and at the finish he was 11 seconds ahead of us – this speaks volumes about the speed of their car. But we have also made great progress. Two double podium finishes in the last two Grands Prix fueled optimism in the second part of the season.
