Sauber remains the only team in the championship that still has no points to its name after eight rounds of the season. Of course, Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou promise that they will do everything they can in Montreal to change the situation…
Alessandro Aluni Bravi, team representative: “After two difficult races in a row in Imola and Monaco, we are going abroad again. Although the results have not yet met our expectations, we are determined to put this behind us and try again.
We know how hard everyone on the team works, and we also know that the gap with the competition can be closed. In Montreal we will do everything we can to earn points and achieve good results.
The opponents are strong, the results are very close, but we are ready to take on this challenge. As we have seen in several previous stages, we are losing less and less to our main rivals, so achieving maximum performance in every round and taking advantage of every opportunity is now more important than ever. This is the only way we can take a step forward and turn the situation around.”
Valtteri Bottas: “It’s nice to be back in Canada – racing at the Montreal circuit is usually interesting and it’s quite fun to drive there. This is one of the classic races on the calendar and I love the challenges inherent in this circuit, which has remained unchanged since it was built.
I’m already looking forward to working on the track and while we don’t deny that things are not going well for us, the team is in a fighting spirit. In the days after the Monaco stage we analyzed our problems and tried to find ways to improve them.
We have been able to earn points in Montreal over the past two years and it would be great if we could do that again. The goal remains the same: to work as efficiently as possible from Friday, start from a good position based on the results of qualifying and be ready to fight in Sunday’s race.”
Guanyu Zhou: “We knew we still had a lot of work to do after Monaco, that’s what the team did. We have regrouped our forces and tried to create favorable conditions to change the situation that has developed this season.
Even though we haven’t earned any points yet, this doesn’t affect our motivation – on the contrary. We are determined to make a difference and get back to the level at which we want to compete.
I’m happy to be back in Montreal because during the race weekend the whole city turns into a Formula 1 festival and the fans in the stands give us extra energy.
We know that if we can add even a hundredth of a second, it will allow us to show better results in qualifying, because it is on Saturday that we need to make improvements. We have to stay focused and work as hard as we can all weekend.”
