Toto Wolff: Both cars get a new front wing

Mercedes believes the team is making gradual progress, and ahead of the Canadian leg of the championship, leader Toto Wolff spoke optimistically about next weekend’s chances.

Toto Wolff: “The results from the weekend in Monaco were encouraging, we continue to make confident progress by modernizing the car, improving the balance overall and we are one step closer to the rivals ahead.

This progress has not yet manifested itself in terms of results, but if we can continue to close the gap with the fastest cars then there will be results. We know that.

In Canada, an improved front wing will be fitted to both cars and we will also introduce a number of other technical innovations. On the narrow streets of Monaco, this wing allowed us to achieve a small increase in speed, and on the circuits where we will compete in the next rounds, its benefits should be more noticeable.

The rivalry in the leadership group has reached an incredibly high level, the differences have become smaller and we have no illusions: the rivals continue to gain strength. Our task is to work with the same tenacity and dedication to enter into a dispute for victories.

Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a beautiful circuit. It’s a combination of slow corners and fast straights, so the racing there is very interesting. We always enjoy returning to Montreal because Canadian fans love Formula 1 passionately.

We have experienced many joyful moments there over the years and hope that we will experience the same emotions next weekend.”
