At the beginning of this year, the Sauber team introduced the Stake F1 brand, under which it operates in countries where gambling advertising is allowed. However, the Swiss Federal Casino Commission did not like this name because the team operates under a Swiss license and advertising of online casinos is prohibited in the country.
The team was threatened with a fine of up to half a million Swiss francs, but after an investigation the authorities dropped all claims against Sauber.
“During the compliance check, it was taken into account that Sauber competes internationally and that there are no performances in Switzerland with the Stake logo,” the official statement said. – Additionally, Stake services are not available to users in Switzerland. For these reasons, the committee terminates the proceedings.”
However, the committee added that the decision in the Sauber case cannot be considered a precedent.
