On Monday, Alpine announced that it would end its partnership with Esteban Ocon after the end of the season. The French racer, in turn, has already promised to announce his future plans soon.
The German publication F1-Insider writes that Ocon expects to sign a multi-year contract with Sauber/Audi. The team is really considering Esteban, but Carlos Sainz remains the first choice for the Audi management. Audi is willing to wait for Carlos’ decision, but if Carlos refuses, the contract will be offered to Ocon, although another unexpected contender for the place at Sauber has emerged: Yuki Tsunoda.
As for Carlos himself: after Red Bull Racing extended the contract with Sergio Perez, the Spanish driver chooses between Audi and Williams. According to F1 Insider, Carlos is leaning towards the Williams option.
Alpine is considering two candidates for Ocon’s place: Jack Duane and Mick Schumacher. Current team driver Pierre Gasly is offered a new contract.
Haas plans to invite Oliver Berman to replace the outgoing Nico Hülkenberg. The chance that Kevin Magnussen will be offered a new contract is small. Two current Sauber teammates – Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou – are vying for his place.
