The 2024 Formula 1 season has a record length: 24 Grand Prix. Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei said more countries are showing interest in hosting a national event, but organizers will not increase the number of races.
“We had a great race in China this year and we see opportunities in Southeast Asia,” Maffei said on James Allen’s podcast. – Countries such as Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea are showing interest in us. But can we have all these races now? No, because we are limited to a calendar of 24 Grand Prix.
The current Agreement of Agreement allows for an increase in the number of Grand Prix to 25, but I believe we have all come to a general agreement that we will not exceed the number of 24 stages.
At the same time, we try to find the right balance between historic circuits and new races. Everyone wants to organize a Formula 1 event and this is good news for us.”
