Oscar Piastri earned points at all stages of the season, finishing in the top five four times, and in Monaco he took second place and reached the podium for the first time in 2024. The Australian McLaren driver makes no secret of the fact that he has made progress in almost all important areas.
Oscar Piastri: “I believe that our team performed with great confidence in the three previous phases of the season, myself included. The race in Monaco was the first where I was able to show a very good result and the car is now working very efficiently, but I feel like I have also taken a step forward. I managed to achieve stability on several stages, which is always nice.
But I would say it’s not just my confidence in the car. Even in the early season races there were good moments, and the way we performed in those early stages was encouraging. After that there were a few difficult races, but overall I feel like I made a noticeable step forward in many areas compared to last year. The only thing I was missing was stability, but lately we have been facing this problem too.
I don’t think I took any special measures for this, mainly because the team didn’t do anything that would specifically address that. It’s just that now our car makes a very good impression, technical innovations work effectively and it seems that we are reaching a new level.
I hope I can finish higher than 11th in Canada (a year ago in Montreal Oscar showed exactly this result). It seems to me that we have a confident attitude and can claim high positions, although I don’t know if we can be considered among the favorites.
However, I don’t know if anyone can be considered a clear favorite now. But while we certainly did not achieve a victory last year, we can now aim for the highest results. If you start the weekend knowing that you can claim victory, that is of course much more pleasant than a situation where you just hope to earn some points.”
