On the eve of the Canadian Grand Prix, reports appeared in the Spanish press that Carlos Sainz had already signed a contract with Williams for 2025. In Montreal, Carlos urged everyone not to believe these rumors.
Carlos Sainz: “All I can say is that nothing has been signed yet. I’ve seen reports in the press and I don’t know if they originally appeared in Spanish publications or not, but when someone writes that I signed a contract, I have to laugh.
I remember three months ago there were articles that I had signed a contract with Mercedes, and then there were reports that I had signed a contract with Red Bull. As you now know, this is not true.
It’s funny that people are now saying that I signed a contract with Williams. Sometimes press releases go unpunished and it worries me that people can get away with things like this.
If I have news to announce, you will be the first to know, and I will tell you everything openly.”
Carlos Sainz added that he knew some time ago there was no place for him at Red Bull Racing, as he was told in a “private conversation with the team.” At the same time, Carlos added that he does not feel disappointed by this: “Of course my goal in Formula 1 is to win and be in the best possible position. I still have time until the end of the year at Ferrari and I would like to make the most of this opportunity as every weekend I have the chance to get on the podium or win a race. It’s nice to know that.
It is always difficult to understand the dynamics of Formula 1 when you look at the situation from the outside. But if you look from the inside, everyone has a good reason for making the decisions he or she has made. We say ‘our daily bread’ and I have seen that confirmed in Formula 1 for years.”
