Alpine’s decision not to renew Esteban Ocon’s contract for next season came a week after the Monaco Grand Prix, in which Ocon collided with teammate Pierre Gasly. In Montreal, Esteban emphasized that there was no connection between these two events, and that the decision to end the collaboration was mutual.
Esteban Ocon: “There is no connection between these events. The Renault Group does not make decisions based on isolated incidents such as these. My team and I negotiated for several months and decided together not to continue the collaboration. It’s no secret that I communicated not only with Alpine, but also with other teams.
I played for this team for five years and achieved a lot, even though there were difficult moments. I am proud of my achievements, but it is time to take on new and exciting challenges. I believe this is really the right time to complete our collaboration.”
