Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko mentioned another non-obvious reason why the contract with Sergio Perez was extended by two years. It turned out that there is more demand among fans in Latin American countries for the attributes of the Mexican racer than for the attributes of Max Verstappen.
“We wanted to guarantee continuity in the team,” Helmut Marko explains about the contract extension with Perez. “Moreover, both drivers get along well with each other. There are simply no conflicts between them.
Sergio is incredibly popular in Latin America. We sell more Perez merchandise there than Verstappen merchandise. Plus, when he’s in shape, he’s virtually invincible.”
Speaking about the composition of another Red Bull team, RB from Faenza, Helmut Marko promised Yuki Tsunoda a place behind the wheel in 2025: “It is clear that Yuki will stay.
As for Liam Lawson, he comes to every race and we are in close contact with him. There is a clause in his contract that if we don’t give him a place as a prize rider, he can go to another team.”
