Jacques Villeneuve: Why is Ricciardo still in Formula 1?

1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve sharply criticized RB driver Daniel Ricciardo, who has regularly been inferior to teammate Yuki Tsunoda this season. Jacques believes that the Australian’s time is long gone and that he no longer has a place in Formula 1.

Jacques Villeneuve: “Why is he still racing in Formula 1? Why? We’ve been hearing the same thing for four or five years now.

We have to make a better car for Daniel… Poor Daniel. Sorry, but it’s been five years, so no. We are talking about Formula 1. Can you put more effort into giving Lewis Hamilton, who has won many titles, a better car?

You can’t put that much effort into a rider who can’t deliver results. If you can’t do it, go home. Someone else will take your place. This has always been the case in racing, but we are talking about the pinnacle of motorsport. There’s no point in keeping someone on the team and continuing to make excuses.

Everyone talks about how good Ricciardo was in his first and second seasons at Red Bull. He was ahead of a burnt out Sebastian Vettel, who tried to do something with the car to get him winning again, and this ruined his weekend.

Ricciardo then spent the first half of the season working for Verstappen, who was 18 and just starting out with the team. That’s all. After that he was no longer ahead of anyone.”
