The Sauber drivers are in good spirits as both believe the team has made significant progress from the previous round.
Valtteri Bottas (14th): “It looks like we are doing better than Monaco this weekend, and this is certainly encouraging.
The rain affected both sessions, meaning that every time we hit the track the conditions changed and the tires had to be replaced. This made it difficult to obtain detailed information about the machine’s behavior.
Nevertheless, the impression of the C44’s work is quite positive and in the second session we were able to complete quite a few laps, collecting useful information that the team still needs to work with.
The weather forecast promises changeable weather, so in tomorrow’s qualifying it is important to fully trust the car and push to the limit, regardless of the conditions.”
Guanyu Zhou (17th): “It’s great to be back in Montreal, although the first day of the weekend was difficult for everyone. During the first practice I expected the grip on wet asphalt to still be higher, but hydroplaning started, although I was lucky that the car was not too badly damaged.
The team did an excellent job preparing for the second session and we were able to work on the track in both dry and wet conditions. But because the condition of the track was constantly changing, it is difficult to say what positions we are in, although we can certainly say that the car’s behavior is clearly better than in Monaco. I’m ready to continue working on the track on Saturday.”
