Max Verstappen managed to complete only four laps in the second practice of the Canadian Grand Prix, after which he returned to the pits due to problems with ERS. For the current world champion, Friday’s program ended on the track here and the team is working to determine the exact cause of the problem.
His Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez completed 19 laps and set the tenth fastest time of the session.
Sergio Perez (10th): “A difficult day, given the weather conditions. A very important qualification awaits us on Saturday, in which we have to do everything right. In the second session we saw how the track conditions changed significantly, so not doing a fast lap at the right time will have a big impact.
Some adjustments still need to be made to the car, but we know what changes are needed. Given the weather, it is difficult to draw conclusions about the balance of power.
With the intermediate tires we were able to make good progress, but on the slicks I just couldn’t get the time right, so I’m not worried about the result. We’ll see on Saturday how competitive we are.”
Max Verstappen (18th): “Unfortunately the work in the first training was strongly influenced by the weather, and in the second I was not able to complete many laps. There was a suspicion of a problem with the electrical component of the power plant, so the team told me to return to the pits. They are currently investigating the cause and I am sure we will get to the bottom of it.
The situation is not ideal because I wanted to do more laps. This is not how I wanted to end the training, but now it is important to understand the reasons for what happened and what consequences this will have in the remaining days of the weekend.”
