James Vowles, head of Williams Racing, makes no secret of the fact that he is trying to convince Carlos Sainz to accept his offer and become Alex Albon’s new partner, but understands that the decision depends only on the Spaniard himself.
“Why does it make sense to go to Williams? Let’s answer this question,” Vowles told Sky Sports. “I also came here for a specific reason.” Williams is no longer the same team as three years ago. And the very fact of our negotiations with Carlos suggests that we have changed our approach and want to have two world-class drivers who can steadily move the team forward.
We want everyone to understand the seriousness of our intentions. We are willing to invest as much as necessary to get back to the fore. In 2026, our car will have one of the best, if not the best, power plants.
I hope that soon we will announce that about 30 excellent specialists from other teams will join us – we have collected them over the last twelve months, so the world is changing. And if we talk in general about the magnitude of the tasks we face, then a racer like Carlos can be entrusted with a very important role in solving them.
Of course, we must take into account that the choice depends only on him: whether he wants to move to Williams or not. It’s hard to say what decision he will make, but I think Carlos sees the strengths of our project. Although it’s easy for me to say this because I work for Williams and wear the team’s kit. But still, I believe that the decision to come to us is easy to make, but everything depends only on him.”
